What to bring
A day pack, and boots that fit
Your main bag travels by road, so it can be as heavy as you like. What matters is the day pack and the boots.
On you, every day
- Boots you have already walked twenty miles in
- Waterproof jacket, properly waterproof
- Two litres of water, or a bladder
- Sun hat and sunscreen; you are near the equator at altitude
- Poles, if descents bother your knees
In the day pack
- Fleece or long sleeves — it is cold on the ridge at eight
- Your lunch box from the inn
- Plasters and whatever you take for blisters
- A phone, and a bag to keep it dry
In the big bag
- A second pair of trousers; the first will be wet
- Something to wear at dinner that is not walking clothes
- Sandals or crocs for the evening
- A book. There is no television at three of the inns.
We bring
- Maps, first aid and a radio
- A spare jacket in the van, and spare poles
- Water refills at lunch
- Two guides on every departure of four or more
